Bettors have zoned in on Alabama and Ohio State as we head into the 2022 college football season.
Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia are the clear favorites to win the College Football Playoff.
Bettors have primarily ignored Georgia, with some doubt that it can return to the title game after losing key pieces from its historic defense. But they have hammered the Buckeyes and the Crimson Tide, as both have become liabilities at sportsbooks.
According to the latest market report on Aug. 22, Ohio State is the biggest liability at BetMGM. The Buckeyes account for 21.3% of the CFP National Championship tickets and a whopping 39.1% of the total handle.
They also have the highest ticket count at Caesars at 13.7% and the second-highest handle at 22.7%.
Ohio State returns starting quarterback CJ Stroud, who is billed as one of the favorites to win the Heisman. Meanwhile, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is expected to be one of the top receivers in the country.
The Buckeyes are +320 to win the national championship at BetMGM and +300 at Caesars.
After losing in the title game last season, Alabama has reloaded and is the favorite at every sportsbook to win the national title. And that hasn't scared bettors from hopping on the bandwagon.
The Crimson Tide are the third-biggest liability at BetMGM. They're receiving 20.6% of the total bets and 21.1% of the money. At Caesars, they're getting 10.7% of the tickets and 32.6% of the handle.
Alabama returns Heisman-winning quarterback Bryce Young, along with reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year Will Anderson Jr. The Tide are +190 at BetMGM to win the title and +180 at Caesars.
Caesars has posted a line for Alabama vs. the field, with +180 to Alabama and -220 to the field.
Caesars also posted a line for Alabama, Ohio State or Georgia vs. the field at -380 to the three schools and +290 to the field.
Ohio State or Alabama vs. the field is basically a pick 'em at Caesars. Ohio State or Alabama is at -105 and the field is -115.
