Virginia Tech vs. Tulane
The new name of betting on bowl games is monitoring who’s in and who’s out, as the opt-outs and transfer portal entrants are piled high. One team that this has significantly impacted is Tulane.
The Green Wave offense will be without their starting quarterback, two starting wide receivers, their starting tight end and their starting left guard. Not to mention, head coach Willie Fritz has taken the job at Houston already.
Running back Makhi Hughes is the only source of offensive production left, and while he was a workhorse for this offense, it may be hard for him to get going in this matchup. Virginia Tech was solid against the rush this season, ranking 69th in yards per rush allowed.
On top of the matchup, Hughes’s line is a tad inflated here. He did surpass this total in 7 of his 13 games this season but averaged only 99 yards per game.
With the lack of options facing them, the Hokies should be well prepared to contain Hughes and keep him under this total.
Pick: Hughes Under 108.5 Rushing Yards
North Carolina vs. West Virginia
West Virginia was not a team that threw the ball very much this season, but it may let quarterback Garrett Greene show off his arm against a North Carolina secondary that was weak this season and will be missing three cornerbacks and a starting linebacker.
Teams did plenty of damage against the Tar Heels' secondary this season, as they ranked 89th in opponent completion percentage and 70th in yards per pass allowed.
The player who will benefit the most from this matchup is Kole Taylor. Taylor is set to lead the Mountaineer receiving corps. Three depth receivers have entered the transfer portal, and leading receiver Devin Carter played just four snaps in the season finale.
Meanwhile, Taylor led West Virginia in receptions and averaged 12.5 yards per reception. That work led him to go over this total in 58% of games this season, and if he does get the extra volume we anticipate here, he should soar over again.
Pick: Taylor Over 30.5 Receiving Yards

Louisville vs. USC
Opt-outs have taken the helium out of this matchup, but they have also created a smash spot for Louisville running back Isaac Guerendo.
Guerendo was the second option in the Cardinals' backfield tandem and was just as efficient as Jawhar Jordan, averaging six yards per carry. With Jordan opting out, Guerendo will now have a much larger workload and should be in line for a minimum of 14 carries here.
That's the minimum because the Cardinals may lean on him for two reasons. First, he has an incredible matchup, as the Trojans ranked 105th in yards per rush allowed on the season and have only lost depth this bowl season.
Secondly, Louisville's leading wide receiver, Jamari Thrash, has opted out. So, even with Jack Plummer starting this game, there’s no telling how much success the passing game will have without its top target.
All signs point to Guerendo leading the Cardinals to victory here in spectacular fashion.
