Mike Norvell’s seat keeps getting warmer and warmer.
Florida State lost 20-12 to Memphis at home on Sunday, marking the Seminoles' third straight loss to the start of the 2024 season.
The Tigers were 6.5-point underdogs ahead of kickoff. FSU was also favored — by double-digits — in each of its other two losses against Georgia Tech and Boston College.
According to Action Network’s Evan Abrams, FSU is only the third team in the last 40 years to begin their season with back-to-back losses despite being double-digit favorites.
FSU is now the first team in Associated Press poll history to open the season in the top 10 and start 0-3 with all three losses to unranked teams.
The Seminoles entered the season with a 9.5 over/under win total and with Saturday’s loss, they became the first FBS school to clinch their under total.
Norvell has guided FSU to back-to-back seasons with 10-plus wins, including a 13-0 regular-season record last year. But with Saturday’s defeat, FSU has begun a campaign 0-3 twice since Norvell took over in 2020. The program had only endured an 0-3 start once in the 66 seasons prior to Norvell’s arrival.
