Florida State (1-8) will pay a visit to No. 10 Notre Dame (7-1) in South Bend, Indiana, on Saturday night, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

At the beginning of the season, most would have pegged this as a potential top-10 matchup with major CFP implications. That is anything but the case now, due in large part to the disastrous 2024 campaign for Florida State. Nothing has gone right for the Seminoles all season, who now enter this one with a 1-8 record.

Let's take a look at my Notre Dame vs. Florida State predictions and my college football picks for Saturday, Nov. 9.

Florida State Football vs Notre Dame Football Preview

Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview: Historically Bad Offense

It's hard to really find the main cause of Florida State's woes this season because seemingly everything has gone wrong.

The DJ Uiagalelei acquisition from the transfer portal was a total whiff. The rest of the quarterback room has been just as bad, and the Seminoles rank outside the top 100 in every major offensive statistic as a result. There is not a single thing that Mike Norvell can lean on with this attack, as every part of the offense has major issues.

Florida State scored 21 points in its season-opening loss to Georgia Tech in Ireland. The Seminoles have failed to eclipse 20 in any game since that point. It's not like they've been playing a juggernaut of opposing defenses either. This is a historically bad unit.

QB Brock Glenn played for most of the game last time out against North Carolina, and he'll likely see action again this week in South Bend.

On the other side of the ball, there is still plenty of talent in the FSU defense. The problem is, when you're asked to be on the field so often, breakdowns and injuries are bound to occur.

FSU now has to face the best defense it has played all season, as well as a physical Irish rushing attack… not pretty.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Betting Preview: Defense Leads the Way

Marcus Freeman's team has stayed the course after a stunning Week 2 loss to Northern Illinois. The Fighting Irish have won six in a row since then, and now likely control their destiny to make the first ever 12-team playoff.

The defense has been consistent all year — ranking second in Defensive Pass Success, fourth in Quality Drives, and seventh in Finishing Drives. There is NFL talent at all three levels of this defense, and Al Golden is one of the best defensive coordinator's in America.

This unit should be licking its chops to get to face this FSU offense at home under the lights in the only night game of the year in South Bend.

Riley Leonard and the offense, meanwhile, have started to find form after a very pedestrian start to the season.

The Irish have two home-run hitters in the backfield in Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price, and I wouldn't be shocked if either went for a long touchdown run Saturday night. Additionally, Leonard is starting to settle in and gain more comfort in OC Mike Denbrock's system. He should have plenty of open receivers given the likelihood that FSU tries to sell out to stop the run.

How to Bet My Florida State vs Notre Dame Pick

I'm aware of just how big of a number this is to be laying, but I'm going to do so anyways.

Notre Dame's offense has made strides over the last couple of games, and Saturday marks another opportunity to build on those improvements.

Additionally, style points matter for a Notre Dame team that doesn't have a ton of great wins on its resume, so Freeman shouldn't have much reason to take his foot off the gas.

The Irish defense should absolutely dominate a brutal Seminoles offensive attack, which will give Leonard and company plenty of short fields to go put points up on the board.

Give me the Irish to win this one big.

Pick: Notre Dame -25.5
