DeBoer was among the potential replacement candidates mentioned to Action Network College Football Insider Brett McMurphy when Saban's announcement shocked the sports world. Alabama's odds to win the national title next season fell from +550 to +1000 at FanDuel after Saban's retirement announcement.
DeBoer coached the Huskies to the College Football Playoff National Championship game this season in a loss to Michigan. He coached Washington to a win in the Alamo Bowl in the previous season and spent a season and a half as the head coach of the Fresno State Bulldogs in 2020-21. It's been quite a rise for DeBoer in the college ranks, who started his career as a coordinator at the University of Sioux Falls and was the head coach of that school at the same time Saban started coaching at Alabama.
DeBoer has a 37-9 record combined from his time at Washington and Fresno State. This past season, DeBoer went 10-3-1 against the spread when facing ranked opponents, third-most profitable of all 175 coaches during that span. He was also 7-1 ATS as an underdog, covering by 8.1 points per game.
This is a developing story.
