Another week of college football, another double-digit underdog pulls off an upset. Kentucky defeated No. 6 Ole Miss, 20-17, coming out on top in a grueling matchup between SEC rivals.
The Wildcats entered the contest as 15.5-point underdogs and were listed at +525 on the moneyline; Ole Miss was -750 SU. But coach Mark Stoops' squad outlasted Lane Kiffin's team to clinch Kentucky's first victory in Oxford since 1978.
Ole Miss entered the matchup as the nation's highest-scoring program (55.0 points per game) and stoutest defense (5.5 points allowed per game). But Kentucky kept the Rebels offense in check, limiting star quarterback Jaxson Dart to 261 passing yards and one touchdown.
The Rebels took a 17-13 near the end of the third quarter, when Dart connected with Tre Harris on a 48-yard touchdown. But Kentucky score a go-ahead touchdown on Josh Katus' 2-yard run with just over two minutes left. Ole Miss attempted a 48-yard field goal with 48 seconds remaining, but Caden Davis pushed it wide left.
The defeat marks the Rebels' first of the year. Ole Miss entered the weekend with the seventh-best odds of winning the national championship and the fourth-best odds of winning the SEC.
