Bet To Watch

Miami Ohio Over 6.5 (+105)

Miami of Ohio started 2016 0-6 before rattling off six straight wins and giving Mississippi State a scare in the St. Petersburg Bowl. Expectations for 2017 were high with quarterback Gus Ragland returning; after an injury and some subpar play last season, Ragland returns for his senior campaign to lead an experienced offense that's deep on the line.

With an overall returning production ranking of 33rd, the strength lies in the eight returning starters on defense. The defensive backs ranked 15th in the nation in overall havoc, and that unit will be bolstered by junior college transfer Zedrick Raymond.

Most of these MAC teams are so closely power rated that many of the point spreads swing within one score for either team. Miami of Ohio certainly underachieved in 2017, racking up a 2nd-Order win total of 2.8. That is the highest of any FBS team, meaning they played better than their record. It's enough to convince me to take over 6.5 +115 on the Redhawks. Keep tabs on the Marshall opener: Miami Ohio is currently favored -3, and a victory would go a long way toward cashing the over.
