Neither the Oklahoma State Cowboys nor the Baylor Bears were supposed to be here. But as you can see in the chart below, the 2021 season has been a slow, steady climb up our college football power ratings as the wins just kept piling up.

Oklahoma State has one blemish — a three-point loss to Iowa State midseason. The Pokes survived Bedlam against Oklahoma, and have set themselves up for a College Football Playoff appearance if they can beat Baylor on Saturday afternoon.

Our power ratings make this game tighter — Oklahoma State -4, with the total at 52.6.

The Big 12 went away from its championship game after the 2010 season, and brought it back in 2017. Oklahoma has won each of the four editions since it was reinstated.

The betting market didn't see Oklahoma State as a real Big 12 contender before the season. As always, Oklahoma was the odds-on favorite, with Texas and Iowa State right behind.

But both the Longhorns and Cyclones faltered, and Oklahoma State just kept winning.

They are very fortunate to still be in the College Football Playoff hunt after a controversial ending against Boise State early in the season.

How Baylor Got Here

Dave Aranda's second season in Waco was better than anyone could have hoped for. Especially after Baylor went 2-7 in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.

Baylor is a stellar 8-4 against the spread and has shown balance on both offense and defense.

The Bears did play a lot of close games and came out on the right side of them. Their only losses came against Oklahoma State and Iowa State.
