Bet To Watch

Old Dominion Under 5.5 (+120)

Old Dominion made FCS transition programs proud in 2016 with a shared division title and a bowl victory. Last year, it took a step back with plenty of inexperienced players in each unit. That all changes in 2018, as Old Dominion ranks 23rd overall in returning production. But you shouldn't rush to back the Monarchs just yet.

A veteran offensive line, ranking 51st in adjusted sack rate last year, will protect quarterback Steven Williams. Plenty of experience returns in the skill positions for the Monarchs. The defensive front four is one of the highest-rated units in Conference USA, but the defense beyond that brings the least amount of experience and depth. Teams that can get the ball downfield in conference play, particularly North Texas and Florida Atlantic, should give the Monarchs issues.

Although there are plenty of coin flips on the schedule, I have Old Dominion as a favorite in only two games. Liberty, Charlotte, East Carolina and Rice all present opportunities for wins, but only a sweep would get this win total over, unless the Monarchs pull a big upset. Take Old Dominion Under 5.5 (+120).

What else you need to know about Old Dominion

Old Dominion will be a favorite or coin flip (within three points) in six games, and look specifically to bet home games. The Monarchs defend home turf well, posting a 21-1 straight-up record since joining the FBS at home when they are listed as the favorite.
