Ole Miss Rebels vs Arkansas Razorbacks College Football Preview

Ole Miss Rebels Betting Preview: Elite Defense

After opening with four dominant victories, coach Lane Kiffin’s squad has hit some speed bumps in SEC play.

The overtime loss at LSU is not overly surprising, but the Rebels' home defeat to Kentucky could keep them out of the playoffs.

The Ole Miss defense is awesome. The unit leads or ties the FBS lead in six defensive categories, including scoring defense, rushing defense and tackles for loss.

The Rebels also boast four top 50 Pro Football Focus defenders, led by top-rated defender Chris Paul Jr. It also helps when you have Suntarine Perkins and Walter Nolen along the defensive line to plug holes and rush the passer.

The pressure was displayed last week as Ole Miss racked up 10 sacks against Oklahoma. It was the second-most in program history and the most ever surrendered by the Sooners.

A lineman even chips in on offense to add to the defense's dominance. Defensive tackle JJ Pegues owns five rushing scores on the season, making him one of two FBS defensive linemen since 2015 with at least five touchdowns.

Kiffin’s defense will be tested here against the Hogs.

Arkansas Razorbacks Betting Preview: Green Legs

After a disappointing season a year ago, coach Sam Pittman made a big swing in the offseason by bringing back former Razorback coach Bobby Petrino to run the offense.

It hasn’t taken Petrino very long to get this Arkansas offense humming again. The Hogs rank second in the SEC and seventh nationally in total offense.

One of Pittman's other big moves over the summer was bringing in transfer quarterback Taylen Green from Boise State. Although he has been strong with his arm, his legs have opened up the offense.

Green has combined with Ja’Quinden Jackson to create one of the nation's best rushing attacks. Arkansas ranks in the top 10 nationally in rushing scores (22), and six Hogs have run for at least one touchdown this season.

However, Jackson is doubtful for this game due to an injury, so Green could be asked to do even more for Petrino’s offense.

How To Make College Football Picks For My Ole Miss vs Arkansas Prediction

You have Petrino against Kiffin, which you would think has to mean we see points here.

However, this could play out like an old-school SEC battle, and I particularly like the visitors' matchup advantage.

The Hogs score when they establish the run to open up the pass.

Unfortunately, this plays right into the strength of the Rebel defense.

Ole Miss ranks in the top 10 nationally in Rush Success Rate allowed and Defensive Line Yards.

In SEC play, the Rebels have allowed only 118.8 rushing yards per game, holding three under 150 yards on the ground. This is one of the main reasons Ole Miss has allowed more than 22 points once all season.

Even though they scored plenty against a terrible Mississippi State defense and against an Auburn squad that had five turnovers, the Razorbacks also failed to eclipse 22 points against Texas A&M, LSU and Tennessee.

Like many previous head-to-head meetings, I could see this one being close until the final play.

But I don’t see many points, especially from the home team.
