The Civil War, Civil Conflict, Battle of the Oregonians or whatever they end up deciding is the new nickname, what matters is there is a massive matchup between the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers on deck.
Oregon opened as a 9-point home favorite on Circa Sportsbook against its in-state rival. That line has quickly moved down to -7 and -7.5 on most books as early sharp action has been coming in on the Beavers.
Oregon is coming off of its second loss of the season, suffering a 38-7 loss on the road at Utah. Before that game, the Ducks were sitting at No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings. Now, it looks like their CFP dreams have vanished.
The Ducks plummeted in Action Network's college football insider Brett McMurphy's AP ballot, Oregon sits at No. 13 in the latest edition of his AP ballot.
Action Network's senior college football writer Collin Wilson also dropped the Ducks to No. 13 in his College Football Betting Power Ratings.
Neither Wilson or McMurphy had Oregon State in their top 25 despite coming off a 24-10 win over Arizona State.
The game has massive implications for the Pac-12 title game. Oregon controls its own destiny — a win over Oregon State will grant the Ducks a rematch with Utah in Las Vegas.
Oregon State needs to win and Washington State has to lose to Washington in the Apple Cup for the Beavers to win the Pac-12 North. Washington State has the tiebreaker over Oregon State, having beat it in the regular season.
The Beavers have been night-and-day at home versus on the road this season. They finished 6-0 at Beaver Stadium in 2021, with wins over Utah and ASU. But they have had some serious woes away from home, as they are 1-4 on the road this season with their lone win coming at USC.
Oregon State has the formula for beating Oregon after this past week: Outwork the Ducks in the trenches. The Beavers certainly have the ability to do that and it should come down to Oregon State's ability to stop the run.
This historic rivalry is always a fun game and it should make it even better that there are major postseason implications for both teams.
