In both breaking and surprising college football news, Wake Forest star quarterback Sam Hartman is out indefinitely after seeking medical treatment for a non-football related condition according to Les Johns from 247sports.com.
Hartman is coming off a stellar 2021 campaign, throwing for 4,228 yards and 39 touchdowns, with just 14 interceptions, while leading the Demon Deacons to an 11-3 overall record and a victory over Rutgers in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
With the prospects of Hartman missing some, or even all, of the 2022-23 college football season, let's take a quick look at the latest Heisman Trophy odds, as well as where Wake Forest football stacks in the ACC as well as nationally.
*Odds as of Wednesday, Aug. 10.
Sam Hartman Heisman Odds
Unsurprisingly, the junior quarterback is in the Heisman Trophy conversation heading into the 2022 season, evidenced by 60-1 odds to win the award at DraftKings Sportsbook — tied for the 18th-best odds among all players.
Wake Forest College Football Odds
Prior to Wednesday morning's news, Wake Forest was 180-1 to win the national championship at DraftKings and 200-1 at FanDuel.
In addition, the Demon Deacons are 18-1 to win the ACC and +950 to finish first in the ACC's Atlantic Division, trailing just Clemson (-240) and NC State (+500).
Wake Forest's over/under win total currently sits at 8.5 as well, with a +115 vig to the over and the under available at -135.
However, while Wake Forest futures are still available at many shops across the market, some have started pulling them off the board as well.
Because there's still so much uncertainty regarding Hartman's status, it's tough to tell when key signal-caller could return to the field.
