San Jose State Under 2.5 Wins (-110)

The Spartans had a rough start for first-year coach Brent Brennan, going 2-11 with wins over only Cal Poly-SLO and Wyoming. A 2-5 against-the-spread mark away from home made a weekly fade of San Jose State a money maker. You would expect a better result in Year 2 for Brennan, but a win total of 2.5 and a line of UC Davis -1 in Week 1 may suggest otherwise.

San Jose State is 44th overall in returning production, with a stark contrast between offense (fifth) and defense (113th). Multiple quarterbacks from last year's campaign continue to compete for the starting job, while a nice skill set returns in the backfield. The Spartans, under new offensive coordinator Kevin McGiven from Oregon State, must replace most of their offensive line.

The defense is looking for healthy bodies. Seven linebackers sat out the spring game due to injury. This group ranked 127th in points per game allowed last year, including an overall havoc rate of 123rd.

The one positive aspect of San Jose State football is its field goal kicking. Bryce Crawford returns after making 30-of-35 field goals the past two years, specifically ranking second in field goal value in 2017. A little help from the offense getting to the green zone (128th in finishing drives) could help the Spartans cover a few more games.

Take San Jose State win total under 2.5 wins (-110).

What else you need to know about San Jose State

SJSU is 5-15 ATS as an away underdog since 2014, and this trend continued through the coaching change last year. Games at Washington State and Oregon early should provide a chance to cash on this trend.
