As I said earlier this offseason, I am a believer in South Alabama. The Jaguars made a shrewd hire in Steve Campbell after he turned Central Arkansas into an FCS powerhouse. Campbell is also familiar with the Sun Belt and even orchestrated an upset over Arkansas State in 2016.

Cole Garvin is expected to be the starting quarterback after Dallas Davis transferred, and Garvin will lead an offense that ranks 24th in returning production for 2018.

After opening against Louisiana Tech, South Alabama heads to Oklahoma State on Sept. 8. It isn't completely out of the question that the Jaguars could make some noise in Stillwater, as they're well-known for wins over Mississippi State and San Diego State.
Even with a loss to the Cowboys, South Alabama should be favored in four games: Texas State, Alabama State, Louisiana-Lafayette and possibly UL Monroe. That leaves plenty of room to cash the over.
What else you need to know about South Alabama
South Alabama faces Troy off a bye week, but the Jags' new offensive coordinator may not need the extra time. Kenny Edenfield was the offensive coordinator at Troy from 2010-2017.
Troy owes its success as one of the most efficient offenses in the Sun Belt to Edenfield, and that bodes well for South Alabama. No game of the year line is posted, but look to back South Alabama plus points and a moneyline sprinkle on Oct. 23.
