Look, Heisman Trophy runs have to start somewhere.

Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders is one of the early, hot commodities in the wee days of the 2022 college football season after he posted video game numbers against Central Michigan on Thursday night.

Sanders lit up the Chippewas defense for 406 yards and four passing touchdown, plus another 57 yards and two scores on the ground.

Oklahoma State put up 58 points and the closing total of 58.5 stood no chance as Sanders and the Cowboys' offense did the bulk of the work to shatter that in the first half.

Sanders went bonkers on the stat sheet despite being down leading receiver Jayden Bray and a slew of tight ends.

The dual-threat quarterback hit three different receivers on touchdown strikes in the first half and added a couple of rushing scores. Sanders added another passing touchdown in the third, putting the Pokes in cruise control.

Sanders, who's in his fourth season as Oklahoma State's primary signal caller, ran for a career-high 688 yards last year.

I'll state the obvious: It's early. Like, earliest-possible-point-in-the-season early.

But just last year, a dark horse in the form of Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker went off in the opener against Northwestern with 294 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

He carried that momentum all year en route to finishing sixth in the Heisman voting. That would have been a nice ticket to have in the back pocket, especially with all the early cash-out opportunities available nowadays.

BetMGM has the best number at the time of this writing for those who think Sanders keeps the momentum chugging.

He and the Cowboys will be favored when Arizona State comes to town in Week 2.
