Syracuse vs Boston College Betting Preview

Syracuse Orange Betting Preview: All Gas, No Brakes

Syracuse received a gigantic boost when McCord came to town. The former Buckeye has elevated the Orange to their best season since 2018, when they went 10-3.

He’s helped Syracuse reach an impressive sixth-best Pass Play Success Rate and 19th-best Pass Down Success Rate. He also throws the ball at an insane rate, leading the nation in both passing completions and attempts.

With that, there are a whole lot of receptions to go around. Trebor Pena and Jackson Meeks lead the team with 500 receiving yards each. Additionally, Oronde Gadsen II isn’t far behind with 484 yards. He's also second on the team averaging 13 yards per catch.

As mentioned, Allen is still a big part of this program. He runs at an efficient rate — 4.6 yards per carry — and has notched seven rushing touchdowns.

Defensively, Syracuse has a lot of great playmakers, but works at an ineffective pace.

The run defense is 113th in Rush Success Rate allowed and a horrid 128th in Passing Down Success Rate allowed.

However, it’s hard to ignore the playmakers, like Fadil Diggs, Duce Chestnut, Clarence Lewis and Devin Grant.

Boston College Eagles Betting Preview: Looking to Snap the Skid

The Eagles will go as far as Thomas Castellanos brings them. Castellanos is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback with explosive wheels.

He’s helped Boston College generate an explosive passing offense and is armed with weapons in Lewis Bond and Reed Harris. Running back Treshaun Ward is also a legitimate aerial option. Additionally, Castellanos has been well protected for the most part. In fact, the Eagles are 29th in Havoc allowed.

So, what has caused this horrid three-game losing streak? The lack of a run game. Ward is averaging 5.3 yards per carry, but Kye Robichaux has been a total non-factor, yet receives an equal amount of carries.

I’m not a fan of coach Bill O’Brien and I think he’s nothing better than a mediocre coach, but I’ll give credit where it’s due — his defense has shown up to play.

The Eagles have stuffed the run at an elite pace, ranking fifth in Rush Success Rate allowed, and are just as good against the pass, ranking 14th in Pass Down Success Rate allowed.

Donovan Ezeiruaku is one of the nation’s most dominant defensive ends, ranking ninth in tackles for loss and fifth in sacks. It’ll be interesting to see him square up against Syracuse’s strong offensive line, which ranks 21st in Havoc allowed.

Syracuse vs Boston College Best Bet

I don’t think the ball is going to move as much in this battle.

The presence of Ezeiruaku is significantly going to impact McCord's ability to throw. With him throwing at an astronomical rate, there will be plenty of opportunities for Ezeiruaku.

Unders for Syracuse have also hit 57% of the time.

And while Boston College has a highly explosive offense, it has found itself in several low-scoring games, with unders hitting at a 62.5% rate.

I also don’t have a ton of high expectations for the Eagles. While Castellanos is an intriguing player, there’s nothing eye-popping about this team on the offensive end.

Back this to go under and we’ll see if Boston College loses its fourth straight.
