Twitter was abuzz on Saturday afternoon after Nebraska and Scott Frost lost yet another close one — this time to Northwestern in Ireland.

Some of the chatter was regarding the onside kick that Frost dared to sanction while up 11 points in the third quarter. Others were talking about another Nebraska disappointment in what was supposed to be a turnaround year.

And many were remiss because their Nebraska futures are now likely duds.

Nebraska had been the second-most popular team at Caesars to win the Big Ten, only behind Michigan. Those were at odds of 16-1. That line has already plummeted to +5000, a reduction in implied odds of about 4% after the Cornhuskers' 31-28 loss to Northwestern.

Meanwhile, at PointsBet, Nebraska was the No. 1 pick to win the Big Ten West with 30% of total bets.

Curiously, while Nebraska was a popular over win total pick at 7.5, its under was equally as popular.

A representative from Caesars said that Nebraska is the only team whose win total had at least $30,000 in bets on both the under and over.

While all those bets may now be dead to rights, there's at least a non-zero chance Nebraska still salvages their season. Their win total of 7.5, for instance, is still very much up in the air.

But one sorry bettor doesn't even have time on his side.

He bet $33,000 at Hard Rock Sportsbook on Nebraska to beat Northwestern. The bet would have netted just $6,933. It, of course, lost him five figures.
