How Texas A&M Reached the Gator Bowl

A year after rattling off nine straight wins to close the season, A&M took a step back in 2021.

The Aggies were particularly spotty when giving points, losing to LSU, Mississippi State and Arkansas as favorites. Colorado, which finished 4-8, nearly tripped up the SEC affiliate as a 17-point ‘dog.

The highlight of the season was a win over Alabama in Week 6, handing the Crimson Tide their first loss of the year.

Jimbo Fisher is 34-14 overall and 21-12 in conference play since taking the job in 2018.

The Aggies are led by their defense, which allowed the fourth-fewest points per game (15.9) and held four conference opponents to 20 or fewer points.

How Wake Forest Reached the Gator Bowl

Wake Forest got out of the gates like gangbusters this season, ripping off eight straight wins.

However, a heartbreaking 58-55 loss to North Carolina, in which Wake held a 14-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, really detailed the team’s movement down the stretch.

The Demon Deacons ended up losing three of their last five games, including a beatdown in the ACC Championship Game.

Wake Forest was also perfectly mediocre for college football bettors this season, posting a 6-6 record against the spread (ATS).

Interestingly, the Deacs performed very well as favorites (5-3 ATS), but stumbled in games against better opponents, finishing 1-3 ATS as underdogs this year.
