Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a strained abdomen injury during the second quarter of the Longhorns’ contest against UTSA on Saturday.
He went down after completing a pass to tight end Gunnar Helm before limping around on the field. He played another snap and handed the ball off before falling to the turf. Texas trainers and medical staff members tended to him, and he was surrounded by teammates. From there, Ewers was forced to exit the game.

Ewers needed assistance off the field and entered the medical tent for further evaluation. He emerged with a towel over his head before heading to the locker room. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian told ESPN the nature of Ewers' ailment at halftime.
Scary moment at DKR. Texas QB Quinn Ewers goes down without being touched after a handoff. He's heading to the tent. Arch Manning is in the game.

Losing Ewers could potentially be a significant blow to a Longhorns team that appears primed for another College Football Playoff run. Texas entered this weekend with the third-highest future odds (+550) to win the national championship, trailing only Georgia (+280) and Ohio State (+350).
For Ewers, a significant injury could hamper his chances of winning the Heisman Trophy. The junior signal-caller entered tied with Georgia’s Carson Beck with the best odds (+750) to win the award. Ewers currently boasts the second-highest odds (+600) — trailing Beck (+300) — to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

In the meantime, Texas will rely on heralded freshman Arch Manning — the nephew of legendary NFL QBs Peyton and Eli — to fill in for Ewers. Manning threw a 19-yard touchdown pass on his first snap, then reeled off a 67-yard touchdown run on the following series.
The Longhorns entered the weekend with the second-best odds (+260) of winning the SEC crown, only behind Georgia (+165).
