Travis Hunter to win the Heisman might be the best bet on the board right now.
People are tired of the Colorado hype, understandably so. But there's not a more dominant player in college football than Hunter. At 35/1, currently at BetMGM, there's no better Heisman bet out there.
In every game that Hunter will play this season, he'll be the best player at wide receiver and cornerback. There's no other player in college football that can say that.
Hunter has played 388 snaps this season, an average of 129 per game. He's played 177 snaps on offense and accumulated 342 receiving yards and five touchdowns so far. Hunter is second in the nation in receptions at 10 per game, ninth in receiving yards at 114 per game and he's tied for second in touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, he's racked up 11 tackles, two pass break-ups and one interception. It could be difficult for him to keep those numbers up as opposing quarterbacks refuse to throw to his side.
Over the past 24 seasons, 20 quarterbacks have won the Heisman Trophy. It's recently gone to a great quarterback on one of the top teams in the country.
Colorado isn't expected to be a top team in the country, but that might not matter as much with the numbers Hunter will be able to accumulate.
Hunter's competition for the Heisman is another key piece to his candidacy. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers went into Week 3 as the favorite. He went down with an injury and his timetable to return is unknown, which has led to sportsbooks taking his odds off the board.
Miami quarterback Cam Ward has taken over as the Heisman favorite. He's put up impressive numbers, but with just one ranked opponent on the schedule, how many opportunities will Ward have to impress on a national stage?
Then there are SEC quarterbacks such as Tennessee's Nico Iamaleava, Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart and Alabama's Jalen Milroe. All three have less than 10-1 odds to win the trophy. At that point, they may just be giving it to the quarterback on the best team.
Nobody has been impressive enough so far to say it's their trophy to lose. If Hunter is able to stay healthy, it could end up being his to lose.
