UC Davis Aggies Betting Preview

UC Davis comes in as the winner of eight straight and has been one of the more consistent teams in FCS this season.

Quarterback Miles Hastings has been outstanding, completing 69% of his passes for 2800 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Lan Larison is a real difference-maker at running back and is on pace to outperform his excellent 2023 campaign. Larison has 15 combined touchdowns rushing and receiving, along with 1500 all-purpose yards.

The defense has played well enough to keep the opposition at arm’s length, but the stronger offensive teams in the Big Sky have been able to move the ball and score against the Aggies' stop unit.

Montana Grizzlies Betting Preview

The Grizzlies have won three in a row against some of the weaker competition in the Big Sky, including NAU, Northern Colorado, and Cal Poly.

While Montana is one of the premier teams in FCS, the Grizzlies have stumbled this season. They posted two bad losses against North Dakota and Weber State that have not aged well.

The Griz have split reps at quarterback most of the season, with former Fresno State transfer Logan Fife and Keali’i Ah Yat sharing the load.

The defense has played lights out against weaker competition, but the Griz stop unit has also given up yards and points in bunches against some of the stronger teams they have faced this year.

Montana needs a win here.

UC Davis vs Montana Pick & Prediction

This is an exciting football game between two evenly-matched squads.

While Montana is still an excellent FCS football team, there have been some concerns that I can no longer ignore.

I'm not in love with the quarterback rotation. Both have played well, and I can't understand why they won't decide on a primary signal-caller.

The Griz have played three weaker Big Sky opponents in the past three weeks, and those performances haven't been encouraging. Northern Arizona was leading Montana by double-digits well into the third quarter. The offense underwhelmed against North Colorado and Cal Poly. I haven't seen any urgency or continuity.

Larison should be the difference here, especially after not getting to play in this matchup last season — Montana stole that game 31-23. Still, it was an even affair, and Larison's availability could've flipped the result.

These two games are much more evenly matched than the 6.5-point spread indicates. The difference is that UC Davis has the better quarterback situation and will be playing for revenge after last year's tough loss. The game should come down to the wire, and we should see an electric environment in Missoula late on Saturday night.

UC Davis is not quite the FCS household name Montana is, but the Aggies are just as good.
