UConn vs Syracuse Preview
Connecticut Huskies Betting Preview
UConn comes in from a bye week, followed by a 31-23 come-from-behind win at UAB on November 9th.
The Huskies trailed at the half 20-3 and again 23-10 entering the fourth quarter. UConn took advantage of two fourth-quarter UAB turnovers and stopped the Blazers twice on fourth down to seize the victory.
UConn has secured bowl eligibility but should be laser-focused these last two weeks while competing against the Orange and again next week at UMass.
Syracuse Orange Betting Preview
Syracuse is off an impressive road win at California last week.
Cal took money in the market all week and steamed from 6.5-point favorites to 11.5-point favorites at close.
But it didn't matter. The game was never close, as the Orange scored thrice in the second quarter, building a 27-7 halftime lead. Cal scored a touchdown in the final minute to make the final closer than the game ever was.
UConn vs Syracuse Pick & Prediction
I like UConn.
UConn has already played two ACC teams close this year and feels they will compete well against the Orange this week.
Syracuse's offense has improved mightily with Kyle McCord under center, but the Orange can't run the football and give up too many negative plays, including sacks. The Orange rank outside the top 100 nationally in EPA per Rush and Rush Success Rate, and they should struggle on Saturday against a solid UConn front seven that ranks 55th nationally in Rush Explosiveness allowed.
UConn should move the ball against a brutal Syracuse defense that's allowed over 400 yards and 30 points per game over the past three weeks.
UConn's defense has also been lights out in the red zone, allowing only 11 touchdowns on 32 trips inside the 20-yard line. Meanwhile, Syracuse has reached the endzone on only 58% of red-zone trips, and the kicking game has been unreliable.
Syracuse will play aggressively on third and fourth down, but UConn's defense has been awesome in those situations, allowing a 29% conversion rate on third down and a 43% on fourth down.
The Orange's offensive line is weak, and McCord has flailed without a consistent run game.
Syracuse has only defeated one FBS team by more than one score this year, back in Week 1 against Ohio.
Meanwhile, UConn is playing great football. The Huskies also have a big situational advantage, as they're coming off a bye week, while Syracuse has played back-to-back road games and have a trip to Miami on deck.
Pick: UConn +10.5
