Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty went from extreme longshot to Heisman Trophy favorite after a historic start to the season. However, after a mediocre performance by his lofty standards, Jeanty fell down the board. He now has the fourth-best odds (+450), according to BetMGM.
So, who’s in the driver’s seat as we head into November?
That would be Oregon Ducks QB Dillon Gabriel (+250), who’s a narrow favorite over Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter (+250). Miami QB Cam Ward is hot on their heels (+300) in what’s essentially a four-man race. Clemson QB Cade Klubnik has the fifth-best odds at (+2500).
Gabriel opened as a co-favorite at +800 to win the award along with Georgia’s Carson Beck and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. However, while the other two’s stocks have sunk, Gabriel’s lived up to the hype.
Top-ranked Oregon is a perfect 8-0 as he’s completed 192-of-252 passes for 2,371 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s also been effective on the ground with five rushing TDs. His best game came in the team’s win over then No. 2 ranked Ohio State when he went 23-for-34 for 341 yards and two touchdowns while carrying the ball four times for 32 yards and another score.
Gabriel winning the Heisman Trophy is a drastically preferred outcome over Hunter, who provides the biggest liability by far. 16.8% of all tickets and a massive 31.1% of the handle is on Colorado’s two-way star taking home the award. For comparison's sake, Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava (8.8%) and Ward (8.5%) have the next-highest ticket percentages, while Jeanty (11.4%) and Ward (9.0%) present the next-biggest liabilities.
