Utah State Under 7.5 Wins (+100)
It's been a few years since the days when all-everything QB Chuckie Keeton turned in some amazing performances for Utah State. Keeton is back, but this time on the coaching staff ready to help sophomore quarterback Jordan Love.
The Aggies will look to bounce back from a tough ending to the 2017 season, when they lost to New Mexico State in a wild Arizona Bowl.
The good news for Utah State is that it returns plenty of talent in the receiving corps, and the offensive line returns five starters. Even with an overall ranking of 60th in returning production, both sides of the ball will have playmakers. The biggest change for the defense is new coordinator Keith Patterson, who arrives from Arizona State. The Sun Devils finished outside of the top 100 in defensive S&P+ the past two years.
A 2nd-Order Win Total of 1.3 in 2017 and 1.8 in 2016 indicates some horrible luck over the past two years for the Aggies. Utah State has posted a 2-10 record in games decided by one touchdown over the past three years. Head coach Matt Wells will need karma to roll his way with six games projected within a touchdown in 2018.
The schedule is not favorable for a Mountain West Mountain Division run, with trips to Boise State and Wyoming. Drawing Hawaii and San Jose State, while dodging Fresno State and San Diego State, does give the Aggies a bit more flexibility in losses.
With my projection at 6.8, we'll take the under 7.5 wins (+100). Michigan State, Boise State and Wyoming are out of reach for the win column, leaving the Aggies room to lose only one game on the remainder of the schedule. That is a tough ask until the close-game karma turns around.
What else you need to know about Utah State
The Aggies should notch enough wins for a postseason trip. Utah State is 6-0 to the under in its last six bowl games.
