Another day, another parlay.

We head to Salt Lake City for the 85th rendition of “The Holy War” between the BYU Cougars (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) and Utah Utes (4-4, 1-4). Football has been booming in the state of Utah, especially with the Cougars primed for their first undefeated season in 40 years.

Utah has seemingly been at the mercy of Cam Rising’s health, which explains falling victim in four consecutive games. There’s no denying the skill Rising brings, but he’s 25 years old, and it’s time for the Utes to look elsewhere for their offensive general.

Let’s dive into my Utah vs. BYU picks and this +500 same-game parlay I built on Caesars.

Utah Utes vs. BYU Cougars Picks, Predictions, Same-Game Parlay

  • BYU -3
  • Jake Retzlaff Over 29.5 Rushing Yards
  • Micah Bernard Over 72.5 Rushing Yards

Parlay Odds: +500

Please always remember to bet responsibly. SGPs are long shots for a reason.

Spread: BYU -3

Ever since Rising went down, it’s been a downward slope for the Utes. Their passing game has fallen dramatically with Isaac Wilson at the helm. He’s only completing 55% of his passes and has thrown eight interceptions in seven games.

That’s a nightmare situation for Utah, as BYU has one of the most stifling defenses in college football, especially against the pass.

The Cougars have Jack Kelly, Isaiah Glasker and Harrison Taggart, all of whom have been menaces on the front line and have combined for:

  • 16.5 tackles for loss
  • 6 sacks
  • 7 pass breakups
  • 15 quarterback hits
  • 3 forced fumbles

It may be after Halloween, but I’m expecting Wilson to see ghosts in this matchup.

BYU Player Prop: Jake Retzlaff Over 29.5 Rushing Yards

Jake Retzlaff has made himself at home in Provo.

The senior quarterback has been a huge part of BYU’s success this season. He’s never been one to explode for big plays, but he’s always made the right play.

But what’s made Retzlaff such an integral part of this program is his ability to improvise.

I love that his rushing number is set at 29.5 — a number he's gone over five times. He also tallied 28 yards in another game.

Retzlaff leads the Cougars in rushing yards gained. When both LJ Martin and Hinckley Ropati missed some time this season, it was on Retzlaff to put the team on his back — and he did just that.

Rushing props for quarterbacks can be risky since sacks count against their rushing yards. While BYU’s offensive line isn’t the best, it clearly hasn’t stopped Retzlaff from gaining yards.

Utah Player Prop: Micah Bernard Over 72.5 Rushing Yards

Micah Bernard has had such an exceptional season, but in the past two games, he has been held to only 3.9 yards per carry.

However, Bernard goes against a defense that has let up a bunch of rushing yards this season. The Cougars are ranked 48th in Rush Success Rate allowed, 83rd in PPA allowed and 117th in explosiveness allowed.

Additionally, they allow opponents to run for 149 yards per game, and in the past three games, that number has skyrocketed to 188.

Before those two sluggish games, the redshirt senior went over 72.5 yards five times, with three of those coming against Big 12 opponents.

Given that Utah is fresh off a bye and that Bernard is past his two-game slump, I see this as the perfect opportunity for Bernard to get over the 72.5-yard mark and break out for a few explosive plays.
