Sam Hartman is back under center for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and a quarterback of that caliber undoubtedly had an effect on the Week 2 betting line vs. Vanderbilt.
Wake Forest odds opened -7 vs. Vanderbilt. But getting back Hartman, who was ruled out indefinitely not even a month ago, the Demon Deacons are now over double digits in the betting markets (view all Week 2 college football odds here)
Saturday's Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt total, meanwhile, has been bet up from 60.5 to as high as 66.
Sam Hartman Impact
Asked of how it affects Wake Forest odds, Action Network's Collin Wilson had this to say of Hartman's return:
"I added six points back to Wake Forest's PR. Wake had a 55% rush rate without him. That should decrease and totals should get a bump."
Wake Forest Odds
Hartman opened the 2021 season 60-1 to win the Heisman Trophy — tied for the 18th-shortest odds of any player in the entire country — before being shelved in August.
He now owns a consensus price of +10000, but the range is significant: BetMGM is offering +3500, whereas PointsBet is listing +250000 — make sure to line shop.
The 6-foot-1 Charlotte native was fresh off a campaign in which he registered 4,228 passing yards en route to an ACC Championship appearance.
Speaking of the ACC, Wake Forest was roughly 18-1 to win the conference around this time last month. The Demon Deacons' consensus price to take the ACC is +2147 at the time of writing, with BetMGM's +3500 serving as the best price grab (Shop and browse all futures here!)
