The college football coaching carousel continues to turn as Jedd Fisch is leaving Arizona to become the next head coach of the Washington Huskies. He takes over for Kalen DeBoer, who left for Alabama to replace Nick Saban following the legendary head coach’s sudden retirement.

Fisch spent three years in Arizona and completely turned the program around. They went 1-11 his first year and 5-7 in his second before going 10-3 this past season. The Wildcats finished the year 11th in the nation, and blew out the 15th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners 38-24 in the Alamo Bowl. It was the school’s first bowl appearance since 2017 and first win since 2015.

Washington’s new head coach has extensive experience at the collegiate and professional level. He served as quarterback coach on Bill Belichick’s Patriots staff the year before joining Arizona. Prior to that he spent two years coaching on the offensive side of the ball under Sean McVay for the Rams, one season as UCLA’s offensive coordinator (including two games as interim head coach) and two seasons as Michigan’s QB coach, WR coach and passing game coordinator.

Now he’ll take over a Washington team that made it to this year’s College Football Playoff National Championship but were blown out by Michigan, 34-13. In addition, several of their biggest playmakers including star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and wide receiver Rome Odunze are heading to the NFL while others entered the transfer portal following DeBoer’s departure.

Washington is listed at +8000 to win the 2024-25 championship at DraftKings following Fisch’s hire, which is 22nd among all teams.
