The Central Division's first-place Colorado Avalanche travel to New York to take on the Metropolitan Division's sixth-place Islanders.
This is the second meeting between these two teams this season, as Colorado won the first matchup, 5-3.
Can Colorado cruise to another victory, or will the Islanders pull off the upset at home?
Avs Continue As One of League's Best
For just the third time this season, the Colorado Avalanche enter a game amidst a two-game losing streak following Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames.
Colorado will look to bounce back as a road favorite against the Islanders, a team it beat in regulation at the beginning of March.
The Avalanche have not had many troubles when priced as a road favorite this season, as they are 9-2 over their last 11 games in such situations. All nine of those wins came in regulation.
It is no secret that Colorado is one of the best teams in the league. This season, the Avalanche rank 12th in five-on-five expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF), and second in five-on-five expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA).
Darcy Kuemper is the projected starter for this matchup and has fared very well on the road recently. Over his last seven road starts, Kuemper is 6-1 with an outstanding 0.951 save percentage.
Isles on a Slide Due to Goaltending?
The New York Islanders enter this contest following Saturday's 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues. New York's upset at home was a rare occurrence this season, as it's just 1-8 when priced as a home underdog.
Of those eight losses, seven have been in regulation. The Islanders will have an exceptionally difficult task in breaking that trend against the Avalanche, as they are worse than them in pretty much every single aspect.
This season, the Islanders rank 18th in five-on-five expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF), and 16th in five-on-five expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA). Things have not been great recently for the Islanders, as they're just 4-8 over their last 12 games.
Part of the slide has been in part due to projected starting goaltender Ilya Sorokin's inconsistent play. Over his last 10 starts, Sorokin is just 4-6 with four of those six losses coming in regulation.
Avalanche vs. Islanders Pick
There is no need to overthink this game, as the Avalanche are rightfully the current favorites to win the Stanley Cup. The Islanders are pretty far removed from the playoff picture and just are not on the same level as Colorado.
Colorado has won the last two meetings in regulation, and I think it will do so again.
Pick: Colorado Avalanche 3-Way ML (-135) | Play up to (-145)
