The Boston Bruins and Seattle Kraken are set to meet for the first time in each franchise's history.
The Boston Bruins return home to TD Garden after a three-game road trip in which they did not play their best brand of hockey.
The Seattle Kraken have been competitive in most of their games as of late and might be finding their stride toward the end of the season.
Boston Bruins Have Been Quiet Offensively
The Boston Bruins have been an above average offensive team all season long, but they have only scored six goals in their last three games. The Bruins rank 15th in the league in goals scored per game with 3.02 goals per contest. They are expected to score at least 2.94 goals per 60 minutes, which won't cut it if they want to give themselves a chance to win every night. On a positive note, they are currently third with a 55.63% Expected Goals For rating.
What sets Boston apart on the offensive end is their power play. They are converting on 25.4% of their man advantages due to the strong play of their first unit, which consists of Taylor Hall, Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand and Matt Grzelcyk.
The B's are coming off of an embarrassing loss in Dallas after Linus Ullmark allowed four goals on the first 15 shots that he faced. This forced Bruce Cassidy to put in Jeremy Swayman who wasn't all that much better and allowed two goals on 14 shots.
The Bruins have not named a starter yet, but they will likely go back with Ullmark as he has been their guy all season long. Ullmark is 15-6-1 on the season, currently skating to a +4.8 Goals Saved Above Expected and a .912 Save Percentage.
Seattle Kraken Finding Ways To Compete
The Kraken have gone 2-2 in their last four games against pretty strong opponents, and they have looked the most competitive that they've been all season. Seattle got their first ever overtime win in Pittsburgh on Thursday night after they defeated the Penguins 2-1 on the game winning goal from Adam Larsson.
Philipp Grubauer is starting to find his confidence in the blue paint after struggling most of the season. Grubauer has had a very disappointing season, but in his last four games, he has only allowed 11 goals on a combined 106 shots. Grubauer is currently 11-17-4 with a .885 Save Percentage and a -25.3 Goals Saved Above Expected.
The Kraken struggle to score goals, and they will face a tough challenge against the Bruins. Seattle is only scoring 2.61 goals per 60 minutes which ranks 25th in the league. The Kraken have their work cut out for them Tuesday night.
Bruins vs. Kraken Pick
The Kraken have looked solid as of late, but the Bruins will be too much for them to handle. The Bruins are returning home after their three-game trip and are 14-8-1 at home on the season.
The Bruins are the much better team in every single category, and despite their offense not showing up as of late, all that changes when they play in front of their home crowd.
The Bruins are heavy favorites in this one, but I think they get the job done in 60 minutes.
Pick: Boston to Win in Regulation (-165)
