The Flames and Bruins each scored convincing wins Saturday and will look to stay hot against each other at TD Garden on Sunday
Calgary has been the NHL's road warriors this season. Sunday will mark the Flames' NHL-high 13th game away from the Saddledome, and it caps their season-high seven-game road trip. They are 8-2-2 on the road this season and have gone 3-1-2 in their previous six.
The Bruins have won three straight, two away from home, but are 6-1 in their seven games in Boston this season.
Flames Have Excelled Away From Home
Only the New York Islanders have played fewer home games than the Flames this season, but Calgary has been dominant, particularly against Eastern Conference opposition. Calgary is 10-1-2 against Eastern foes with eight of those wins coming on the road, including its 4-2 win over the Islanders in the first game at UBS Arena on Saturday.
The Flames have been carried by their goaltending thus far this season as Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar each have sub-two goals-against averages and save percentages above .930. Calgary has the best team save percentage (.956) and best scoring-chance save percentage (.927) in the NHL.
Calgary has the best goal differential in the Western Conference (plus-23) and has been carried offensively by Andrew Mangiapane, who is tied for second in the NHL in goals (12).
Bruins Continue Recent Hot Streak
The Bruins scuffled out of the gate but are rolling, winning six of their last eight, including their 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. Boston has scored five goals in each of its past three games and has outscored its opposition 15-6 in its win streak.
Boston's possession numbers have been great this season, which has masked its deficiencies in goal. Boston has the third-best 5-on-5 expected-goals percentage (55.4) and Corsi-for percentage (53.9), yet is shooting just 6.8 percent at 5-on-5 this season. The Bruins also have the fifth-worst 5-on-5 save percentage in the NHL (.909) and second-worst high-danger save percentage at 5-on-5 (.758).
The Bruins offense, unsurprisingly, has been carried by The Perfection Line of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak, who rank Nos. 1-3 on the team in points. Pastrnak had a goal and an assist, and Marchand had an assist in Boston's victory in Philadelphia.
Bruins vs. Flames Pick
We wouldn't be surprised to see Calgary lay a clunker given the fact Sunday is the second of a back-to-back, the Bruins are good and it is the final game of its lengthy road trip.
Still, the Flames are rolling, and Vladar, who the Bruins traded on July 28, will undoubtedly have something to prove against his former team. We also like Calgary as a plus-money underdog, which is tremendous value given the fact the Flames are one of the NHL's best teams.
Pick: Calgary ML (+145)
