Fresh off a win over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday, the New York Islanders will try to pick up their first win streak of the season on Sunday in Las Vegas.

The Golden Knights, a preseason Stanley Cup favorite, have lost three straight including consecutive games at T-Mobile Arena, and are shockingly in last place in the Pacific Division.

Islanders Defense is Playing Well

The Islanders have picked up points in their past three games after an 0-2 start and have surrendered just four goals in the past three games.

Expect goalie Ilya Sorokin to get the nod for the sixth consecutive game to start the season. Sorokin is coming off a 26-save shutout over Arizona on Saturday and is tied for the most high-danger shots faced at 5-on-5 according to Natural Stat Trick.

Vegas Special Teams Lacking

The Golden Knights are off to the slowest start in their history after being outscored 17-10 in their first four games.

Vegas has been especially let down by its special teams. The Golden Knights power play has not yet scored in nine man-advantage opportunities and have killed just 72.7 percent of penalties taken thus far.

Still, the Golden Knights' play at 5-on-5 has been good, if not quite championship caliber yet. Vegas' 5-on-5 expected goals percentage is middle of the road (48.27 percent). Vegas is also due to start getting some saves from Robin Lehner, Sunday's likely starter in goal. The Golden Knights have the fourth-worst high-danger save percentage at 5-on-5 (74.29) and the seventh-worst 5-on-5 save percentage (.903).

Islanders vs. Golden Knights Pick

Playing back-to-back in the NHL is difficult, and the road-weary Islanders will be playing their fourth game in six days — and they are staring at five days off between their next game in Nashville.

New York should be able to sap some energy from the always-electric crowd in Vegas, but will they be able to sustain that energy against a hungry and angry opponent that is also trying to prove its losing skid is a fluke?

I don't think so. Mash Vegas, particularly if the odds remain under -150.

Pick: Golden Knights ML (-135)
