Check out our NHL on TNT Best Bet for Wednesday night's doubleheader.
Tonight's NHL on TNT slate includes:
- 7 p.m. ET: Chicago Blackhawks @ Toronto Maple Leafs
- 9:30 p.m. ET: Colorado Avalanche @ Minnesota Wild
However, we're going to focus on just the Blackhawks vs. Maple Leafs matchup for our best bet for NHL on TNT this week.
(But in case you're looking for a little more action, we also included a prop bet for a non-TNT game at the end.)
Check out both picks below.
Chicago Blackhawks @ Toronto Maple Leafs
William Nylander has surpassed 3.5 shots on goal in 11 of his last 16 outings (68.75%), and at -132 odds, a wager is profitable if it is hitting 60% of the time. It is logical to believe Nylander will continue to generate shots at such a rate moving forward, especially in this matchup.
Toronto should close as the season's biggest favorite tonight as some books are priced as high as -600 versus the lowly Blackhawks. In all likelihood, Toronto will control the vast majority of play and manage close to 40 shots.
Auston Matthews will make his return tonight and will center Toronto's top even-strength unit skating between Nylander and Michael Bunting.
Matthews' return may sound intimidating when it comes to a bet on Nylander's shot generation since Matthews is first and foremost a shooter himself.
However, Nylander has actually still generated more attempts on goal in minutes of five-on-five play skating with Matthews. The fact that Nylander is spending more time attacking in the offensive zone alongside Matthews makes a greater difference than the fact that he is not entirely the primary shooter.
Bunting-Matthews-Nylander has generated 3.90 xG/60 in 323.4 minutes together at five-on-five, and Chicago does not offer any units that are likely to keep Toronto's top unit at bay.
Pick: William Nylander o3.5 SOG (-132) |

Detroit Red Wings @ Edmonton Oilers
Evander Kane has continued to display better form each time out since his return from a gruesome wrist injury.
That improvement was extremely noticeable over the weekend in matchups versus Ottawa and Montreal despite surprisingly low shot outputs.
Over the last eight games, Kane has averaged 3.875 shots on goal, and he hit this more than half of the time. That run is far from an anomaly, based on a larger sample of Kane's play.
Since arriving in Edmonton, Kane has been a shot-generation machine, including his elite postseason run last year, when he averaged 3.92 shots per game and went over 3.5 half of the time.
Kane is set to skate on an excellent line at even strength tonight alongside Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman. That should help him draw some favorable matchups when looking at the Red Wings' lack of depth defensively.
So, +120 is a great price to get involved with Kane in this matchup, and I would back four shots all the way down to +100.
