They have a good batting order, but a struggling arm on the mound sends Taijuan Walker. The tough exterior lines—yielding a 6.26 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over his 13 starts—have been the only offshoots of an even gloomier reality considering his advanced metrics. Among Walker is rather unsightly with an xERA of 6.69, and he ranks high on percentiles in average exit velocity, barrel rate, and hard-hit rate. The statistics, then, suggest that the Astros offense—or, at least, an offense represented in the top half of the league in several key offensive categories—sort of lines up well with what tends to give Taijuan Walker trouble. On the other side, Houston will go with sophomore right-hander Spencer Arrighetti, a far cry from elite but much more reliable than Walker in just about every key major pitching stat. Arrighetti's ERA, WHIP, xERA, and strikeouts per nine are likely all a little bit better than Walker's, but the latter undoubtedly has better control in limiting hard contact in general. With all this combined, Walker is still focused on a good Philadelphia lineup. The Phillies have big sticks on an uptick swing while Walker can be a little suspect at this level, so this game has "high-scoring" written all over it. This over will be a sexy look in terms of the Astros' overall run-scoring consistency and the Phillies' ability to drive runs across. Both, therefore, will find ways to accrue runs against these pitching staffs to put a number on the board that rises over the set total.
