Pacers vs. Spurs Preview
In the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Victor Wembanyama led France to a silver medal. On Thursday, Paris welcomed its native son back home and he put on a show back in his home country. Wembanyama filled up the stat sheet with 30 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and five blocks.
Typically, Wembanyama's scoring prop is between 23.5 and 25.5 points but it fluctuated between 28.5 and 30.5 for Thursday's game, which was Wembanyama's second 30-point game in his last 10 games.
While Wembanyama led the way, he was not alone as the Spurs pulled away for a 140-110 victory. Devin Vassell scored 25 points and Harrison Barnes scored 20 points as the duo shot a combined 18-for-23 from the field. Jeremy Sochan returned to the lineup and had 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Meanwhile, Chris Paul had seven assists and snuck in for eight rebounds as well.
The Spurs shot 60% from the field, so they are likely due for shooting regression. However, that may not include Vassell considering he has scored 20 points in five straight games and 18 points in seven of his last nine games. He has averaging 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists while shooting 40.6% from three in that nine game stretch.
For the Pacers, Pascal Siakam got off to a fast start in the first quarter but he finished with 18 points on 7-for-10 from the field. The Pacers will look to get him more involved throughout the game in today's rematch. Typically, that is the job of Tyrese Haliburton as he is fifth in the league at 8.8 assists per game. However, it was Andrew Nembhard, who lead the team with eight assists.
Bennedict Mathurin led the team with 25 points in 24 minutes while shooting 11-for-14 from the field. Mathurin has scored at least 19 points in four of his last seven games.
Pacers vs. Spurs Prediction
Wembanyama is -850 to win Defensive Player of the Year on FanDuel and it is not hard to see why. He leads the league with four blocks per game. He has recorded four blocks in five of his last eight games, including five on Thursday. Wembanyama now has 11 blocks in his last two games against the Pacers.
They present a good matchup for him because Siakam, Mathurin, and TJ McConnell among others like to get downhill and score easy baskets in the paint. That sets up opportunities for Wembanyama to alter and squat shots.
Of course, Wembanyama will also make life difficult for the Pacers' big man that he is guarding as well. Wembanyama got one of his blocks on McConnell, but two of them were on Myles Turner, who was held to 5-for-17 from the field.
Wembanyama may come down with a few of his blocks as well. He has recorded 10 rebounds in eight of his last 10 games. I also like Vassell to continue his streak of 20-point games. He is averaging 20.4 points in his last five games against the Pacers.
To cap this parlay, I am going with Nembhard's assists. He has recorded five assists in seven of his last 10 games overall. He also has had eight assists in two of his last three games against the Spurs.
Best Bet: Victor Wembanyama Over 3.5 Blocks (-154)
