Could an NBA arena soon be mixed with the casinos and resorts on the Las Vegas Strip?
LVXP, a real estate development company based in Las Vegas, has unveiled plans for what could become the tallest resort on the Las Vegas Strip. The proposed 752-foot hotel and condominium complex includes 2,605 units and an NBA-ready arena.
The project's details, submitted earlier this month, include maps, renderings, and applications. The Winchester Town Advisory Board will examine them today. This board is crucial in advising the Clark County Commission on development projects in the area.
LVXP’s development site is strategically located across from the newly expanded Las Vegas Convention Center, adjacent to Fontainebleau Las Vegas, and near Resorts World Las Vegas.
It’s a 27-acre site located north of the Strip at 2601 South Las Vegas Boulevard.
If this project comes to fruition, it will surpass Fontainebleau as the tallest resort, potentially reshaping the city's iconic skyline.
NBA Team In Vegas Next Logical Step
Led by CEO James Frasure Jr., Chief of Staff Christine Richards, and Chief Construction Officer Nick Tomasino, LVXP envisions an architectural marvel and a strategic asset for Las Vegas.
A technologically advanced entertainment and sports arena will anchor the experiential mixed-use development.
With an NBA-ready arena, the development could bolster Las Vegas's bid to host an NBA team and enhance its reputation as a sports and entertainment destination. This project could significantly impact the local economy and tourism by attracting significant events and visitors worldwide if approved.
There’s already an NFL team there, and the MLB is on the way, so adding an NBA team to the glitz and glamour of Sin City seems only to make sense.
The NBA has not announced formal expansion plans, but discussions have persisted for years about adding new franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle, potentially increasing the league from 30 to 32 teams. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has even referred to the Las Vegas NBA Summer League in July as the league's "31st franchise."
During an interview in February on The Pat McAfee Show, he also stated that Las Vegas was a candidate for an expansion team.
This NBA Arena Plan is Nothing New
This project has been in the works for many months. Developers have been discussing their plans publicly since April. Even before the Tropicana was razed, they wanted to build LVXP at the former Wet N Wild site.
On top of that, LVXP has already picked AECOM to handle the architecture and engineering to help build the hotel and arena on the Strip. Developers say the project will prioritize sustainable development and green initiatives. It's also expected to create thousands of jobs, employ union labor and generate new revenue for the local economy.
It appears that the wheels are in motion. Now, the ball is in the advisory board's hands. We’ll have to see if they take the shot or decide to pass.
