A lucky poker player from Las Vegas won over half a million dollars at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa.

The player sat at a Pai Gow poker table and hit a seven-card straight flush.

This particular hand included an 8, 9, 10, jack, queen, king, and a joker, earning the player $526,283.

The player wished to remain anonymous, but the casino shared an image of the winning hand on its X account (formerly known as Twitter).

On top of the jackpot, the gambler also won an additional $5,000 from a bonus bet.

We recently saw a similar win at the Durango Casino. Another player turned a $1 bet into a massive Pai Gow poker progressive jackpot.

What is Pai Gow Poker?

In Pai Gow Poker, your goal is to create two poker hands that beat the banker's two hands.

Most of the time, you and the banker each win one hand, resulting in no money being exchanged. Around 41–42% of the time, the game ends in a push, letting you stay at the table longer without any additional risk.

The order of hands from highest to the lowest is as follows:

  1. 5 Aces (including Joker)
  2. Royal Flush
  3. Straight Flush (A,2,3,4,5 is the highest straight flush, K,Q,J,10,9 is the second highest straight flush)
  4. Four of a Kind
  5. Full House
  6. Flush
  7. Straight (A,K,Q,J,10 is the highest straight, A,2,3,4,5 is the second highest straight)
  8. Three of a Kind
  9. Two Pair
  10. One pair
  11. High Card

A joker can be used as an ace or to complete a straight or flush, just like it was to win the jackpot at the South Point Hotel Casino over the weekend.

What is a Straight Flush?

This hand is one of the rarest in the game, second only to a royal flush, and consists of seven cards in sequential order all of the same suit.

A 7-card straight flush is a hand made up of seven cards in a row, all from the same suit.

a hand of cards showing an ace high straight flush or a royal flush are two of the most unbeatable hands in poker

When no jokers are involved, the best possible hand consists of the ace, king, queen, jack, 10, 9, and 8 of the same suit. The weakest hand features the 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and ace.

Strong or weak, if it’s the hand that wins you the jackpot, it doesn’t really matter.
