Smith held a three-shot lead at one point on the back nine, thanks to playing bogey-free golf between hole Nos. 2-17. However, his opening round was bookended by a pair of double bogeys.

Dustin Johnson was in the mix all afternoon, but a bogey on 17 took him out of the running, giving the opening edge to Im.

Jon Rahm closed as the overall betting favorite at BetMGM for the entire tournament (+1100), followed by Justin Thomas (+1200), Smith (+1400), Johnson (+1600) and Scheffler (+1600).

Smith is the current favorite (+550) at DraftKings entering the weekend; Im, meanwhile, is fourth at +850, behind Johnson (+600) and Scheffler (+750).

Tiger Woods, meanwhile, posted three birdies and a couple bogeys in a 1-under par round of 71. Thursday's opening round at Augusta marked Woods' first round of competitive golf since Nov. 2020.
