Today, we will create a custom No Runs First Inning (NRFI) bet by analyzing the performances of two pitchers. This personalized bet can be crafted through sportsbooks such as DraftKings and Barstool. This NRFI bet is different from a traditional NRFI, as it combines two separate half innings from the first innings of two different games. This approach allows you to have a better edge and tailor the bet to your preferences.
Our first selection will be Tampa Bay Rays premier southpaw Shane McClanahan, a leading contender for the AL Cy Young. This season, McClanahan has showcased an impressive 10-2 record with the NRFI, bolstering his career stats to a staggering 30-9 since the 2022 season.
His mastery over his opponents in the first time through the order is clear: he has allowed a mere 16 hits in 93 at-bats, resulting in a trifling .172 average.
Despite seeing him often as a divisional foe, the Boston Red Sox have struggled to find their footing against McClanahan. Key players like Rob Refsnyder (2-for-10), Enrique Hernandez (3-for-16), Masataka Yoshida (0-for-1), Christian Arroyo (1-for-8) and Justin Turner (1-for-3) have seen underwhelming performances against the southpaw, although Alex Verdugo and Rafael Devers have found some level of success against him.
Additionally, Boston's form in the opening innings has been less than ideal over the past two weeks, with a pitiful .105 average.
On the other side of this NRFI selection is Philadelphia Phillies veteran Aaron Nola. This season, Nola has claimed a 7-5 record to the NRFI, but his home and NRFI split truly sets him apart, at 3-1 this year, adding to a phenomenal 17-3 since 2022.
The Detroit Tigers have been in a slump these last two weeks, recording only seven hits in 52 plate appearances in the first inning. The Tigers also hold the highest K percentage in the opening inning at 36.5%. Despite limited interactions with the Tigers' lineup, Nola has held his ground, with Miguel Cabrera at 1-for-8, Zach McKinstry at 0-for-3 and Javier Báez at 3-for-15.
At the time of this writing, the best odds for this custom NRFI are -170 at DraftKings.
As always six outs to glory…
