On Monday, we travel to Citizens Bank Park to take an NRFI between two National League East rivals — the Marlins and the Phillies.
Aaron Nola is on an NRFI tear. He's gone 10-1 to the NRFI this season, making him 42-13 since 2020.
There are two NRFI splits we will look to back with Nola today. When the Phillies pitcher is at home, his NRFI record stands at 21-5 since 2020. Next, when he's pitching in the first game of a series, he's 11-2 to the NRFI in that same time span.
Lastly, when facing batters the first time through the order, Nola has shown complete dominance, holding batters to a lousy .158 average.
Taking it back to 2019 Nola is 5-0 to the NRFI against the Marlins. Here's how he has fared against some of Miami's key hitters in those matchups:
- Jazz Chisholm Jr.: 0-for-4
- Jesus Aguilar: 4-for-12
- Avisail Garcia: 0-for-2
- Jesus Sanchez: 1-for-3
Marlins hitters Jorge Soler, Aguila, and Sanchez struggle to hit on the road, all hitting under .200 so far this season.
Meanwhile, we have Marlins pitcher and early Cy Young candidate Sandy Alcantara on the other side. He's 9-3 to the NRFI so far in 2022, putting him at 41-13 since 2020. Alcantara also holds a respectable road NRFI record at 20-7 since 2020.
When facing batters for the first time through the order, Alcantara has held them in check, allowing only a .189 average.
Here's how the Phillies bats have done in the past against Alcantara:
- Kyle Schwarber: 2-for-8
- Rhys Hoskins: 5-for-25
- JT Realmuto: 6-for-16
- Bryce Harper: 9-for-25
With the total set at just 7.5, look for the NRFI between two two division rivals with their respective aces on the mound.
As always, six outs to glory…
