On Monday, we travel to New York to find value in a NRFI between two inter-city rivals — the New York Yankees and Mets.
The Mets will send out Max Scherzer, who is 14–3 to the NRFI with a 7–2 away NRFI split. When facing hitters the first time through the order, Scherzer has only allowed an impressive .175 average. He is also holding teams' leadoff hitters to a lousy .130 average.
Here is how Scherzer has done in the past against these Yankees hitters:
- Anthony Rizzo: 5-for-20
- Aaron Judge: 2-for-10
- Josh Donaldson: 3-for-17
- Gleyber Torres: 0-for-8
These Yankees hitters have struggled to get hits off Scherzer, hitting a combined 10-for-55. It should be noted the Yankees' NRFI killer, Aaron Judge, is also in the midst of a slump, going 4-for-24 at the plate in his last seven days.
The Yankees will counter with Domingo German, who is 4-2 to the NRFI but holds a 2-0 NRFI home split. German excels at getting opponents' leadoff hitters out. In 2022, he is only allowing a .188 average against them.

German has held the Mets' projected top of the order to a collective 2-for-18. Mets cleanup hitter Pete Alonso, like Judge, is also struggling as of late. Alonso is just 4-for-31 in his last seven days.
