On Tuesday, we look to take an NRFI between two American League teams.
Matt Wisler is a great spot NRFI play. He's been used as a bullpen arm for the majority of his career, but when he's used as a starter, he's a perfect 13-0 to the NRFI dating all the way back to 2019. That includes a 6-0 NRFI record at home and 1-0 NRFI record in 2022.
In this time span, he’s racked up some remarkable first-inning splits.
When Wisler gets the nod as a starting pitching in the last two seasons, he's allowing only two hits against 30 batters, resulting in a .067 batting average against.
Now, he'll face some Seattle batters who are struggling.
Abraham Toro is hitting only .182 to start the season and is 0-1 against Wisler, but more importantly, he’s hitting just .063 on the road. Eugenio Suarez is slashing lefties for a .100 batting average and hitting just .182 on the road. And lastly, JP Crawford is 1-for-3 against Wisler.
On the other side is young Logan Gilbert, who is 23-4 to the NRFI since 2021 and is shaping up to be a great NRFI pitcher.
Gilbert has had NRFI success against the Rays, going 2-0 to the NRFI. He also holds some significant first-inning splits in his career, including a 1.33 ERA and a .132 opponent batting average in 27 first innings pitched.
Gilbert has also had success against some batters he has faced in the past:
- Randy Arozarena: 2-for-6
- Ji-Man Choi: 0-for-4
- Yandy Diaz: 0-for3
- Wander Franco: 0 for 1
Take Wisler and Gilbert to have six up, six down first innings. Take the NRFI Between the Mariners and Rays.
As always six outs to glory…
