UFC 284 is set to be a special night.
The two best pound-for-pound UFC fighters in the world are set to go head-to-head in a fight for the ages.
Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, the No. 1 fighter in the world according to the UFC's pound-for-pound rankings, is moving up a weight class to fight the No. 2 fighter in the world, lightweight champ Islam Makhachev.
Despite the UFC's rankings, Makhachev is a significant favorite in the fight with -375 odds. Makhachev opened at -350 at BetMGM.
The public loves Volkanovski, though. He's getting 84% of the public bets and accounts for 59% of the handle. His odds have moved from +260 to +290 at BetMGM. All of that suggests there is possible sharp money coming in on Makhachev.
Josh Emmett will fight Yair Rodriguez in the co-main event. Rodriguez opened at -160 and is currently -185 at BetMGM. He is getting 46% of the tickets and accounts for 67% of the money.
Jack Della Maddalena (-350) is a significant favorite over Randy Brown (+260) in their main-card bout. Maddalena also appears to be attracting some sharp money as he's getting 26% of the public bets and accounts for 71% of the handle.
Heavyweights Justin Tafa vs. Parker Porter is expected to be the closest fight on the main card. Tafa opened as a -145 favorite, and that line is currently down to -125. Porter is getting a significant amount of the action with 67% of the bets and 70% of the money at BetMGM.
Alonzo Menifield vs. Jimmy Crute will kick off the main card. Crute opened at -225 and is now currently a -190 favorite. He's getting just 30% of the tickets but 46% of the total handle for the light heavyweight bout.
