  • Bubba Wallace is the winner of Monday's NASCAR YellaWood 500 after rain forced a shortened race.
  • Wallace took the lead shortly before rain fell and forced NASCAR to throw the caution flag, then eventually the red flag, with 71 laps remaining in Monday's race.
  • Because the YellaWood 500 has now passed the half-way mark of lap 94, Wallace will be declared the official winner should rain prevent NASCAR from restarting the race.

Bubba Wallace has won his first career NASCAR Cup Series race after the driver of the No. 23 Toyota took the lead during Monday's YellaWood 500 shortly before rain fell on lap 117 at Talladega Superspeedway.

After wet weather forced NASCAR to postpone the YellaWood 500 on Sunday, the race finally got started shortly after 1 p.m. ET on Monday and completed 74 laps before rain started falling at the track, bringing out the caution, then eventually the red flag as of 2:35 p.m. ET.

NASCAR was able to get the race restarted, but rain once again hit the track on lap 117 with Bubba Wallace out front.

Because NASCAR was able to run past halfway, which was 94 of the scheduled 188 laps for the YellaWood 500, the race was deemed official when the rain was simply too much to overcome.

Brad Keselowski, who won at Talladega in the spring, finished in the runner-up spot, followed by Joey Logano, Kurt Busch and Christopher Bell rounding out the top five.

The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs continue on Sunday, Oct. 10 on Charlotte Motor Speedway's ROVAL road course layout.

There have been 35 lead changes among 19 different drivers so far today with five cautions through 117 laps.
