For the past few years the NBA has been trying to sell us on a Clippers vs. Lakers rivalry. Unfortunately it has not lived up to expectations.
Tonight the two teams meet for the first time this season, and hopefully it'll be more exciting than its been during the LeBron James vs. Kawhi Leonard era.
Let's dive into how these two rivals stack up on the court.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers struggles to start the season have been well documented. Through 10 games this season the Lakers are 2-8 straight up and against the spread. They have the same amount of wins as the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets. At least the Magic are 4-6-1 ATS and the Rockets 4-5-2.
The Lakers' main problem, which is a secret to no one, is their poor shooting from behind the arc — and yet, they continue to fire away. The Lakers are next to last in 3-point field goals made and last in 3-point percentage.
And lately they're awful defensively, too. They're 29th in points allowed per game at 122 over the last five games and have slipped to 12th in overall Defensive Rating for the season. They're overrated in the market and bad from both sides of the ball. You are lighting money on fire by betting on them.
Los Angeles Clippers
Coming into the season many sharps identified the Clippers as a team that could possibly take down the Warriors in the Western Conference.
We haven't seen enough evidence to corroborate the wise guys. That's mostly because we've only seen two games from Kawhi Leonard, who the Clippers are easing in after ACL surgery.
But even without Leonard, the Clippers have played well as of late. Tyronn Lue’s team has won four of their last five games, in which Paul George has scored 26 or more points. The team looks cohesive and explosive, but clearly the Clippers' full potential remains to be seen.
Lakers vs. Clippers Pick
While the Clippers have played well as of late, they're still negative ATS, and especially as home favorites.
Meanwhile, though, the Clippers have been 9-2 on the under this season, the best mark in the NBA. With the Lakers' abysmal offense, continue to ride this trend heading into Wednesday night.
Pick: Under 221 (-110) or better
