The Grizzlies had an impressive win against the Milwaukee Bucks this past Thursday at FedEx Forum. In a game without Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart, the Grizzlies blew out the Bucks by 23 points, winning with a final score of 122-99.
Ja Morant secured a triple-double that game, finishing with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 37 points, but the rest of the Bucks squad didn't show. Brook Lopez, the second-leading scorer for the Bucks, scored 12 points. Damian Lillard scored four points and shot 1/12 from the field. The wealth was passed around as the Grizzlies team contributed to the win.
With Bane and Smart out, Santi Aldama and Jaylen Wells were inserted into the starting lineup, and both had impactful games. The Grizzlies bench contributed 38 points, and the team went to the charity stripe 31 times and knocked down 28 free throws. All-around great win for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies' depth is a factor for them being slight favorites to win on the road against Philadelphia. While both teams have injuries, the Grizzlies still have their best player, Ja Morant, to lead the way.
Though their overtime win against the Indiana Pacers was exciting, that has been the 76ers' only bright spot this season.
The team is still without Joel Embiid and Paul George, and there isn't a definitive time for when both of them will be able to make their season debuts. That has mandated Tyrese Maxey to lead the charge until further notice. While Maxey is, without a doubt, one of the best guards in the league, the 76ers don't have enough shot-creators and offensive versatility, which leads to Maxey taking some difficult shots.
Maxey is currently averaging 31.5 points. That is mainly due to him scoring 45 points in Indiana and leading the team to their first win of the season. He's also shooting an abysmal 37 percent from the field, making 10.5 of his shots out of the 27.8 attempts. However, the All-Star guard has to shoot at high volume due to the circumstances.
The second leading scorer is Kelly Oubre Jr, who shoots 41 percent from the field and 27 percent from the 3-point range. The third leading scorer is Caleb Martin at 11.8 points, and he's shooting 35 percent from the field and 20 percent from 3-point range.
As a result, the 76ers have struggled to begin the season. They have already lost two home games to the Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons, and they have lost by eight or more points in their losses. With Ja Morant being a tough cover for the 76ers' defense and Jaren Jackson Jr. capable of having a great two-way game, this matchup favors Memphis.
Grizzlies vs. 76ers Prediction
Though both teams are dealing with injuries, and Philadelphia has the home-court advantage, Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr have a good chance of leading the Grizzlies to their second straight win against Tyrese Maxey and a struggling 76ers team tonight.
