The Indiana Pacers have moved forward by hiring former Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle as their new head honcho.
Now, of course, we don't know if Carlisle and Co. want to keep the Myles Turner-Domantas Sabonis frontcourt together, and we've already seen rumors of the team trading guard Malcolm Brogdon.
All of this is to say that the Pacers could look much different on the court next season.
When you factor in the health of returning players like TJ Warren and Caris LeVert and the fact that Indiana has a lottery pick, it is easy to see how Indiana could have a busy 2021 NBA Draft night.
NBA Draft Needs
- Athletic Playmaking Guard: The Pacers were able to eke out a tremendous amount of per-minute production from backup guard TJ McConnell. His excellent perimeter defense and passing were huge but his lack of speed/athleticism made it tough to get to the FT line, an issue for starter Malcolm Brogdon as well.
- Combo Forward (PF/SF): Indiana struggles to match up with many teams defensively because of their traditional two-big man lineup featuring Myles Turner and Domantas, two players who don't possess much in the way of foot speed. Drafting at a player who adds a positive skillset while being able to defend most NBA small forwards and power forwards reasonably well would help a ton.
