Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have been the story of the early NBA season, but for all the wrong reasons. The Nets fired former head coach Steve Nash and superstar Kyrie Irving is serving a suspension. This is not the start the Nets wanted after an offseason full of drama and trade requests. But, here we are.

Fortunately for Brooklyn, there is plenty of season left and the Nets still have two of the best players in the game.

On the court, the Nets are 5-7. New head coach Jacque Vaughn could very well be a welcomed change for the Nets. Brooklyn has won three of their past four games and four of its past six. Even more important, they have covered the spread in each of their past four games.

Kevin Durant is averaging 30 points per game while shooting 51% from the field. Despite the poor start, BetMGM still has the Nets at +600 to win the East, trailing only the Bucks and Celtics.

Recent reports suggest Irving won't be joining the Nets on this trip. With that being said, I still think Brooklyn will have a productive road trip and I can see the Nets winning at least three games.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers started the season with just two wins in their first six games. However, since that slow start, the Clippers have found their groove. The Clippers have won five of the past six games and that resurgence has been led by Paul George, who is averaging 30 points per game over that stretch. The Clippers also have the third-best defensive rating in the league over those six games, trailing only the Bucks and Nets.

Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard will miss his 10th straight game when the Clippers face the Nets. Leonard has only played in two games this season and isn't expected to play anytime soon as there is no timetable for his return. The Clippers are +350 to win the West at BetMGM and only the Golden State Warriors have shorter odds. It will be interesting to see how those odds shift as Leonard misses time.

Nets-Clippers Pick

The Clippers are 2-5 ATS at home this season. Normally, in a spot like this I would fade the team traveling to Los Angeles for a Saturday afternoon game. However, the Nets are a veteran team so I don't expect them to catch the L.A. flu. This will likely be a one-possession game, so I'm taking the points with the visiting Nets.
