Update: The Bengals have a 30% chance to make the NFL playoffs, according to Action Network's Predictive Analytics team. They enter Week 17 in a four-way tie for the last playoff spot in the AFC but don't control their own destiny.
Update: The Bengals have an estimated 47% chance to make the NFL playoffs after they pulled out a near must-win game against the Vikings. With six different AFC teams entering the week with seven wins, most likely only two of those teams will advance to the playoffs. Cincinnati's odds still depend on which of those teams win their Week 15 games. Two of those teams (Colts and Steelers) play on Saturday — but things almost certainly will change Sunday depending on the results of all the seven-win AFC teams
The Bengals were left for dead after they lost quarterback Joe Burrow to a season-ending wrist injury. However, backup QB Jake Browning has exceeded all expectations to keep the Bengals in the thick of the Wild Card race.
Browning has led Cincinnati to two straight wins against teams also in the thick of the playoff race. He completed 32-of-37 passes for 354 yards and a touchdown while running twice for 22 yards and another TD in a 34-31 overtime win over the Jaguars. He then followed that up going 18-for-24 for 275 yards and two touchdowns while adding another touchdown on the ground in a 34-14 win over the Colts.
However, sportsbooks and Action Network's Predictive Analytics team consider the Bengals longshots to end up in the playoffs. The Bengals have a 24% chance to make the NFL Playoffs and have the eighth-toughest strength of schedule remaining with all four games against teams currently in playoff position. The Bengals are also 3-6 in conference games, putting them behind the eight ball in that pivotal tiebreaker. The best Cincinnati can finish is .500 by sweeping the Steelers, Chiefs and Browns.
