Not much was expected of Tampa Bay in their first year of the post-Tom Brady era. However, Baker Mayfield has shown he can be the team’s quarterback of the future as he has them in the driver’s seat in the race to capture the NFC South crown.
Mayfields’ been solid, completing 274-of-438 passes for 2,934 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He’s also had multiple fourth-quarter comebacks with a flair for the dramatic.
The Buccaneers are currently in first place after another come from behind win last week over the Falcons. Tampa Bay is 3-1 in the division and 5-4 against the NFC after the huge win. The Buccaneers have a 55% chance to make the NFL playoffs entering Sunday's Week 15 games, according to Action Network's Predictive Analytics team. That's slightly higher than their division rivals who are all tied in the standings as of this writing.
However, Mayfield and company have the fifth-toughest schedule over the last month of the season. They visit a resurgent Packers team this week who are off a frustrating loss, followed by games against the Jaguars and Saints. If they can weather that storm, they have what should be an easy win to reach the postseason Week 18 against the hapless Panthers.
