De’Von Achane was questionable heading into the game after not practicing leading up to Thursday Night Football. Even if he was able to give it a go, there was no guarantee how much he’d play even with Raheem Mostert missing the game or how effective he’d be.
Well, he looked pretty darn good carrying a heavy load, and those believing in him cleaned up.
Achane was -105 for an anytime touchdown with the line for rushing attempts set at 11.5, rushing yards at 50.5 and longest run at 14.5. The lines on combined rushing and receiving yards closed at 83.5, receptions at 2.5 and receiving yards at 28.5.
He crushed every single one of those major props, running the ball 22 times for 96 yards while catching seven passes for 69 yards. He led all players in each of those categories. Achane had a combined 165 yards of total offense while also finding paydirt on a five-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, there was a ton of speculation about who would see significant carries alongside Achane — Jaylen Wright or Jeff Wilson Jr. It turned out neither player had many touches. Wright had five carries for four yards while Wilson didn't have a single attempt. The latter did catch two passes for 12 yards, though, while Wright wasn't involved in the passing game.
Whether Achane sees a workhorse role going forward remains to be seen. Mostert — who led the NFL with 18 touchdowns last season – missed the game with a chest injury. However, he's not expected to land on injured reserve, which means Miami believes he'll be back within a couple of weeks. The Dolphins now have 10 days to rest up before flying to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in Week 3.
